Burnet High School’s Bulldog Field is a site of a 7-on-7 state qualifying tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 1.
That’s when the Marble Falls Mustangs face Troy. Then the Mustangs meet Academy at 10:30 a.m. and Burnet at noon, all in pool B.
The Bulldogs play Academy at 9 a.m. and Troy at 10:30 a.m.
The Llano Yellow Jackets, in pool A, face Taylor at 9:45 a.m., Lago Vista at 11:15 a.m. and China Spring, a late addition, at 12:35 p.m.
Bulldogs head coach Ben Speer is the Burnet State Qualifying Tournament director.
“I think it’s going to be a very competitive tournament with who we have,” he said. “It’s going to be fun.”
The pool winners meet in the tournament championship at 1:45 p.m. The winner obtains the automatic bid to the state tournament, which is June 27-29 at Veterans Park in College Station.
Speer noted that while China Spring is playing in the event for the first time, Taylor is returning and Troy is expected to turn heads. Marble Falls, after several years of not playing 7 on 7, signed up.
“Troy has been pretty competitive. They were tickled to death (to come),” he said. “Marble Falls is new to this. We have a good mix, a good competitive tournament. I think it’s a good mix.”
